About Fly Tiwi  

Remote communities in the Territory are not so far away thanks to Fly Tiwi and Hardy Aviation.    

Fly Tiwi was established by Hardy Aviation in November 2008 in association with the Tiwi Land Council. Hardy Aviation is a Territory owned and operated company that was established in Darwin in 1991.    

Fly Tiwi was established by Hardy AviatioThe Fly Tiwi service initially operated to Bathurst and Melville Islands (Nguiu, Pirlangimpi and Milikapiti). It was expanded in January 2009 to service the remote communities of Warruwi and Minjilang on South Goulburn and Croker Island. In May 2009 Fly Tiwi extended its reach even further to Ramingining in Arnhem Land. Since then services have been extended to Lake Evella & Tennant Creek.    

Hardy Aviation prides itself upon its close linkages with Territory communities and responding to emerging needs. The Company operates a fleet of well-maintained aircraft crewed by highly professional pilots who know the Territory and its unique flying conditions. Fly Tiwi flights are carried out under the stringent conditions that apply to aircraft maintenance and pilot experience for Regular Public Transport (RPT) activities.    

The services provide essential travel for hundreds of people who move back and forth from the communities each week. Fly Tiwi has 50 return flights per week to the 8 communities. In addition to passengers, the service carries mail for Australia Post, newspapers, medical supplies and other urgent freight.    

Managing Director of Hardy Aviation, John Hardy, is proud of his company’s close association with indigenous communities around the Territory. Hardy Aviation flies daily to Port Keats and does the mail run to the Daly River basin.    

Hardy Aviation has a fleet of 30 aircraft, including an historic DC 3. The Company flies all around Northern Australia and also operates charter flights to Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea.

Charter flight clients include the NT and Federal Government and workers involved in the oil, gas, mining and tourism industries.  

Although a part of the Hardy Aviation Group, Fly Tiwi operates from separate premises at 7 Murphy Road at the Darwin airport precinct.
